You will be involved with the overall beach programme and evening entertainments with the rest of the base staff. Lots of opportunities for personal sailing including dinghies and windsurfing.
Salary. £80/$150 - £150/$285 per week.
Charter Skipper (or Charter Couple)
May include command of 35 60ft yachts (often catamarans as their popularity increases) operating in the Mediterranean or Caribbean. Very different to working on a private vessel as high turnover of guests with a fast turn around at the end of a charter. Not dissimilar to being an estate agent for yachts. You may occasionally get your feet wet on the odd demonstration but not generally a large part of the job. People with hardened sales skills can do very well. Like most sales jobs, salaries are based on low basic salaries. £12/$22 - £18/$34K pa, but unlimited commission.
Specialist equipment sales/services
Many yacht crew / retired skippers use their expert knowledge and experience to become representatives for large companies within the yachting / boating sector. Often sales jobs with salaries similar to brokerage.
Corporate team member
Another major growth area. Corporate training and entertainment is led by a couple of big players but are joined by lots of small operations, often with just one or even no boats of their own. As a crew member the work is not that different to crewing on any yacht but with the added need for customer service skills and an eye for safety. Boats are usually sailed with minimum crew making room for maximum paying guests.
Salary. Crew £200/$380 - £300/$570 per week. Mate £250/$475 - £350/$665 per week. Skipper £13 /$25K - £25/$47,5Kpa
