Superyacht owners
Ranging from the simply rich right across the board to the multi billionaires, owners are a diverse and eclectic group. Some are fiercely private individuals. Working for them demands that you be very discreet, highly conscious of security and very, very, professional.
-As bosses go, some of these owners can be nightmarish to work for and some can be a joy. Many have risen to their position and financial status through sheer hard work and guts. Others have been born into it. Some nationalities have a reputation for being terrible to work for, demanding, thankless and tight. Others can be generous to a fault – taking real care of their crew, providing them with excellent working conditions with careful management and properly devised budgets. The crew enjoy many perks but what is most appreciated is the fact that they are treated with respect and consideration. Just as a good crew member is valued so is a good owner.
Superyachts are owned for a variety of reasons. For fun, for pleasure, for tax reasons, for business and sometimes even for practical reasons. Some owners will live aboard their yachts seldom coming ashore although this is rare. Some will visit the yacht for just a few weeks a year; others will be on and off their yacht all the time.
Many privately owned yachts may also be made available for charter too. That said, Arab owners, and there are many of them, tend not to make their vessels available for charter and interestingly a yacht constructed for an Arab owner seldom has much open deck space as shade and cool is highly valued.
What is Charter?
Charter is when you pay money to have the use of the vessel for a period of time. This usually ranges from one to two weeks but can be longer than this. It can also be chartered `hired` for just a day or two.
It costs an enormous amonut of money to charter a superyacht ranging from $20`000 up to $100`000 or more day day.
